Who We Are

Milano Livestock Exchange opened its doors in Milano, Texas, on May 6, 1986 as a full-service livestock market. Started and owned by brothers Steven and Ronald Lastovica, MLE served the needs of cattlemen across the state with a weekly sale every Tuesday. After thirty years of marketing livestock to the public, and selling more than one million head of cattle, Steven Lastovica chose to take the longest-running family owned livestock market in Milam County in a different direction. No longer a weekly livestock auction open to the public, Milano Livestock Exchange now continues to operate as a private livestock dealership licensed and bonded with USDA Packers and Stockyard buying stocker, feeder, and replacement cattle for customers. MLE will keep an inventory of high-quality replacement cattle/bulls available for purchase through private treaty and online sales.

Steven’s family, which includes wife, Sandra and children, Stephanie and Stuart, also operate Lastovica Cattle Company, a registered Angus operation. Their main emphasis is on providing bulls to commercial cattlemen through private treaty sales, as well as their own bull sales. Lastovica continues to judge cattle shows across the U.S. In addition, he was appointed by former Texas Agriculture Commissioner Todd Staples to serve on the Texas Beef Council Board of Directors of the Beef Promotion and Research Council, which directs all Beef Check-Off activities, as well as serving as Chairman of the Domestic Marketing Committee. He also serves in other professional organizations such as the National Cattlemen’s Association, Texas Angus Association, the American Angus Association, and the National Livestock Marketing Association. Steven and Sandra are 1985 graduates of Texas A&M University, where Steven was recently selected as the 2016 Outstanding Alumni for the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.

In addition, they are very involved in their community and church activities in Salado, Texas, as well as Texas A&M University College of Agriculture activities, where Steven serves on the Board of Directors for the ALEC Department. They also enjoy Texas A&M sporting events, and the activities of their children. Their son, Stuart, a high school freshman, is very active in FFA, UIL sports, 4-H, exhibiting livestock, and church and community activities, and Stephanie, a 2016 graduate of Texas A&M University, continues her studies there as a graduate student, working on a Master of Agriculture in Animal Science and serving as a graduate assistant.

Although no longer involved in the daily operation of Milano Livestock Exchange, Ronald Lastovica and his wife, Krissie, both 1979 graduates of Texas A&M University, will continue their involvement in their church and in various Belton, Texas community events and organizations. They also have a son, Luke, a high school freshman, as well as son, Lance and daughter Lauren, both A&M graduates who now live in Houston. Lauren and husband, Paul Holub, are also parents to daughter, Hannah.
